Honoring Bernard Brunwasser on His Retirement.

The Council of the City of Philadelphia is very pleased to recognize and honor Bernard Brunwasser on the occasion of his retirement following a distinguished career of forty years of exemplary service to the citizens of Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, Bernard Brunwasser was born in Kassel, West Germany, one of two sons born to Chaim and Genia Brunwasser. Bernard has one brother, Alan Brunwasser. He immigrated to the United States at the age of three in 1951 and was raised in the Strawberry Mansion and Oxford Circle neighborhoods of the City. Bernard attended the Solis-Cohen and Stokely elementary schools, Woodrow Wilson Junior High, Northeast High School and Penn State University; and

WHEREAS, In 1974, Bernard married the love of his life, Eileen, and they have been married for the past thirty-seven years. They are the proud parents of three children: Karen, Steven and Daniel. For the past thirty-two years, the Brunwasser's have made their home in the Bustleton section of the City; and

WHEREAS, While a senior at Penn State University, Bernard was recruited for employment by the City of Philadelphia. He began his City employment as a Management Trainee on November 2, 1970, and steadily climbed the ladder from there. On August 16, 1999, he was promoted to Deputy Water Commissioner and has served with distinction as Water Commissioner since April 24, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Bernard Brunwasser has served the public with energy, commitment and fidelity. He has accepted numerous prestigious awards on behalf of the Water Department and has universally earned high praise for his efforts and the esteem of both his peers and staff.

THEREFORE, By virtue of this Citation and as evidence of the heartfelt congratulations and warm wishes of this legislative body, the Council of the City of Philadelphia is pleased to join with the family, colleagues and many friends of Bernard Brunwasser in honoring him...
