Recognizing Charles “Charlie Mack” Alston for his generosity towards the West Philadelphia High School and the surrounding community.

WHEREAS, On March 18, 2011, Charlie Mack's Foundation, Charlie Mack Cares in partnership with the Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation, donated thirty (30) new Apple computers to the West Philadelphia High School; and
 
WHEREAS, On February 21, sixty (60) computers were stolen worth approximately $80,000 from West Philadelphia High School; and
 
WHEREAS, The donation made in partnership with both foundations helped recover almost $40,000 in loss; and
 
WHEREAS, Philadelphia police recovered thirty (30) of the stolen computers so with the donation, the school again has sixty (60) computers; and
 
WHEREAS, Access to technology for our students is of extreme importance to ensure a positive and competitive environment; and
 
WHEREAS, The students of West Philadelphia High School are deeply grateful for the new computers and feel special as a result of the Charlie Mack Cares and Will and Jade Smith Family Foundation's time and efforts; and
 
WHEREAS, Both Charlie Mack and Will Smith are Philadelphia natives who are known for giving back to their community and believe in being positive role models for the youth; and
 
WHEREAS, Charlie Mack is the founder of Charlie Mack 'Party 4 Peace' Celebrity Weekend, established on July 7, 1990 with a celebrity basketball game.
 
WHEREAS, The impact of giving back to the community is invaluable for the generations of youth that will become our future leaders; now therefore be it
 
RESOLVED, That the Council of the City of Philadelphia recognizes Charles “Charlie Mack” Alston for his generosity towards the West Philadelphia High School and the surrounding community.
