Recognizing and honoring Darrell Scott for his heroism and calm responsible action in rescuing his family from their burning home.

WHEREAS, When a nighttime fire broke out in his family's North Philadelphia row-house, Darrell Scott recalled what he had learned in the Junior Fire Patrol program and saved the lives of 11 family members; and
 
WHEREAS, When the fire started, Darrell told his mother, nine siblings, and a cousin to crawl under the smoke to get out of the house, and told his mother to 'Always be calm, Mom”; and
 
WHEREAS, Darrell said although he didn't know it was coming, he knew it could happen, and long before the fire he had an escape route and a predetermined gathering site for his family; and
 
WHEREAS, Darrell's plan was to stay calm, and that if the fire wasn't at the front of the house, he and his family would go outside through the front door, go to the storefront across the street and then call 911, which he executed precisely when the fire broke out; and  
 
WHEREAS,  In a ceremony at John Moffet School in Northern Liberties, Darrell received an award for heroism from Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers, who recognized Darrell for his commitment, dedication, and service; and
 
WHEREAS, Commissioner Ayers acknowledged that Darrell “represented heroism”, wisdom, and grace through his presence of mind, calm and responsible action, and knowledge of safe emergency procedures; now therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA That, Darrell Scott be recognized and honored for his for his heroism and calm responsible action in rescuing his family from their burning home.
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Darrel Scott as evidence of the sincere appreciation of this legislative body.
