In Memory of Pfc. John Kihm, 10th Mountain Division Infantry Unit United States Army.

WHEREAS, Private First Class John Kihm, of the 10th Mountain Division Infantry Unit, United States Army, gave the ultimate sacrifice on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 when he was killed in Kandahar, Afghanistan; and
 
WHEREAS, Pfc. Kihm enlisted in the United States Army on March 17, 2010 and began Basic Training at Fort Benning, Georgia and was then stationed at Fort Drum, N.Y.; and
 
WHEREAS, In March 2011, the 10th Mountain Division Infantry Unit was deployed to Afghanistan; and
 
WHEREAS, Pfc. Kihm was stationed in Kandahar only 31 days before he was killed in War and today, Thursday, April 28, 2011, his parents John and Ceceila  will travel to Dover Air Force Base to bring his body back to his home in Philadelphia; and
 
WHEREAS, A graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School, Pfc. Kihm was an honor student who ran cross country and wrestled, graduating in 2009 and attending a semester at Penn State University, Abington; and
 
WHEREAS, A devoted Phillies fan, Pfc. Kihm was looking forward to his R&R leave this July 2011 for 15 days and planned on attending a game at Citizens Bank Park with his family; and
 
WHEREAS, Pfc. Kihm has been honored with the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the national Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; and now therefore,
 
RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PHILADELPHIA, We honor the memory of a great American, Pfc. John Kihm and bestows their grateful thanks to his family for his service to our Country and for giving the ultimate sacrifice in protecting our homeland.
