WHEREAS, In 1981, Deborah Porter-Greasham shared her dream of opening a daycare with her family and after the Porter Family rallied their support, Porter's Day Care and Educational Center (PDCED) was founded; and

WHEREAS, Porter's Day Care and Educational Center began with an enrollment of 6, however today they service over 200 children and their families who are enrolled in one of its five programs; and

WHEREAS, Porter's Day Care and Educational Center lives by their mission statement to positively affect the lives of children and the Logan community; and

WHEREAS, Porter's Day Care and Educational Center has an infant-toddler program, a head start preschool program, the Broad Street Academy for children from kindergarten through third grade program, a Latchkey after school program, and a youth development after school program for fifth to eleventh graders; and

WHEREAS, In 2003, Porter's Day Care and Educational Center received the Keystone 4 Stars from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare; and

WHEREAS, In 2004, Porter's Day Care and Educational Center partnered with the School District of Philadelphia and was granted the Head Start Supplemental Assistance Program (HSSAP); and

WHEREAS, Porter's receives contracts from the Department of Human Service and from Pennsylvania's Subsidized Day Care Program; and

WHEREAS, Porter's campus has over 24 class rooms and meeting areas which are also available to the community; and

WHEREAS, Each year, Porter's sponsors an annual Community Day which provides resident, families, organizations, and businesses to partner in activities, provide resources, and learn about the importance of early childhood education; and
