Honoring the life and achievements of Fatimah Ali.

WHEREAS, Fatimah Ali was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA and died on Monday, January 23, 2011 in her North Philadelphia home; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Ali grew up in the West Mount Airy section of Philadelphia, was a 1974 graduate of Germantown Friends School and attended Wesleyan University where she majored in English and History; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Ali was a true journalism and broadcast professional who worked for WURD-AM where she hosted The Real Deal with Fatimah Ali, WDAS-FM, WHAT, Power 99-FM, KYW, WLIB, WBLS-FM and 101 WINS in New York City, the Philadelphia Daily News, The Philadelphia Sunday SUN, the Neighborhood Leader and One Step Away, a newspaper produced by homeless men and women; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Ali was an advocate for a wide range of causes including human rights, education and the betterment of the African American community; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Ali was a caring, determined, passionate and progressive journalist who used her courage, intellect, grace and power to make a real difference in her community; and
 
WHEREAS, One of Ms. Ali's most important roles was that of mother, sister and grandmother.  She was a loving mother who always did the best for her children and loved ones.  She is survived by her partner, Natu Ali, four daughters, Khadija Ahmaddiya, Ariell Hughes, Rashida Ali and Yasmin Ali; a son, Malik Ahmaddiya, two sisters, Diane Webster and Brenda Miller and two grandchildren; and
 
WHEREAS, The passing of Fatimah Ali is a great loss to journalism and broadcasting and the entire City of Philadelphia; now, therefore, be it,
 
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honor the life and achievements of the late Fatimah Ali.
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Fatimah Ali as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
