WHEREAS, Danny Garcia is a proud Philadelphia native, born on March 20th 1988, and raised in the Juniata section of North Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, Danny began training at the Harrowgate Boxing Club at the age of 10, and continued a proud tradition of boxing in the Garcia family; and

WHEREAS, Danny was introduced to the sport by his father Angel, a former boxer, who continues to serve as Danny's coach and trainer; and

WHEREAS, Danny progressed rapidly in his amateur career, earning national championships in 2005 and 2006, and establishing himself as one of the most promising young boxers in the country; and

WHEREAS, Danny began his professional career in 2007 at the age of 19 against Mike Denby, delivering a powerful first round knockout in just over 1 minute; and

WHEREAS, Over the next 4 years Danny amassed an undefeated record of 22-0, with an impressive 14 knockouts, and earned a title shot against boxing legend and Light Welterweight Champion, Erik Morales; and

WHEREAS, March 23rd 2012, Danny achieved a stunning upset victory over Morales, scoring an 11th round knockdown and an overwhelming unanimous decision, earning the WBC Light Welterweight Title; and

WHEREAS, Danny followed this victory with a bout on July 14th 2012, against longtime WBA Champion, Amir Khan; and

WHEREAS, Danny was victorious, scoring 3 knockdowns before the fight was stopped in the 4th round; and

WHEREAS, Danny is now recognized by Ring Magazine as the world Light Welterweight Champion, and is scheduled for a much anticipated rematch with Erik Morales on October 10th 2012; and

WHEREAS, Danny is extremely proud of his Philadelphia and Puerto Rican heritage and is he is deeply honored to bring this world championship to Philadelphia.
