Recognizing May 2013 as Blue Star Mothers Month in the City of Philadelphia.
Body
WHEREAS, Mothers of United States Armed Services Members have long volunteered with great dedication and self-sacrifice throughout the tough times of  War, engaging in activities supporting Armed Services Members such as working in hospitals and train stations, and preparing care packages for soldiers and sailors, and demonstrating great pride in both their children and their Country; and
 
WHEREAS, Blue Star Mothers of America had its beginnings in 1942 during World War II, as the idea of Captain George H. Maines, with an appeal to Mothers of Armed Services Members in The Flint News Advertiser, followed by a meeting held at the Durant Hotel in Flint, Michigan, when it was decided to form a permanent organization; and
 
WHEREAS, Chapters of Blue Star Mothers were then established in Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, New York, Pennsylvania, Oregon, California, Iowa, and Washington; and
 
WHEREAS, In June of 1960, The Blue Star Mothers of America was chartered by the United States Congress; and
 
WHEREAS, Blue Star Mothers provides support for active duty Armed Services personnel, promotes patriotism, assists Veterans organizations, and helps with other activities to keep our Country strong; now therefore, be it
 
RESOLVED, That the Council of the City of Philadelphia, hereby recognizes May 2013 as Blue Star Mothers Month in the City of Philadelphia.
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to The Philadelphia Chapter of The Blue Star Mothers of Pennsylvania as evidence of the respect and admiration of this legislative body for their dedicated efforts and important accomplishments.
