WHEREAS, Founded in 2003 by Ms. Enid Colon, The Philadelphia Latino Pageants is a youth program that began as community dance classes, and has since evolved into one of the largest programs for Latino youth in the City of Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, Enid Colon is a native of Puerto Rico, who has always been devoted to supporting and working for her community. Enid came to Philadelphia in 2002, where she began teaching dance classes free of charge to youth in her community, which became so popular and well known, that she formally founded the Philadelphia Latino Pageants: Miss Latina and Mr. Latino; and

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Latino Pageants have always maintained themselves as icons for community service and academic excellence, and provide youth in the Latino community with a positive outlet for creative expression and demonstration of talents; and

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Latino Pageants continue to attract youth from around the Delaware Valley Area, and grows each year to accommodate and support the large number of youth who are involved in the program; and

WHEREAS, At this year's celebration, the Philadelphia Latino Pageants will include National Costumes, an Evening Wear Competition, and a Final Coronation, and has drawn prestigious guests including the Honorable Mayor Jose Guillermo Rodriguez of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico; and

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Latino Pageant will celebrate its 10th Anniversary on April 5, 2013 and the selection of Miss Latino and Mr. Latino 2013; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes and honors The Philadelphia Latino Pageant for its contributions to arts and culture and youth in the Latino Community. We offer our sincerest congratulations on this incredible milestone, and we look forward to many more years of success.
