WHEREAS, On May 4, 2013, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Philadelphia Section celebrated its 100th Anniversary; and
 
WHEREAS, ASCE Philadelphia Section has over 2200 members in Bucks, Berks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties; and
 
WHEREAS, ASCE, in partnership with The Philadelphia Inquirer, contributes to a special supplement that profiles different professions and is distributed to over 40,000 students in the Philadelphia area; and
 
WHEREAS, ASCE Philadelphia Section participates in panels, forums, and organized discussions with state legislators on the issues and challenges currently facing the industry; and
 
WHEREAS, ASCE enables cosmopolitan and natural environments to sustain the flow of population growth, commercial expansion, and economic development; and
 
WHEREAS, ASCE Philadelphia Section promotes a core mission of advancing the civil engineering profession, serving the public good and enhancing quality of life across Philadelphia; and
 
WHEREAS, ASCE Philadelphia Section through its Younger Member Forum has partnered with Chester A. Arthur School in developing educational programs and community outreach; and
 
WHEREAS, ASCE Philadelphia Section has a laudable tradition of awarding educational grants and scholarships, providing students pursuing education in civil engineering with greater opportunities for success; and
 
WHEREAS, ASCE continues to innovate Philadelphia city bridges, tunnels, waterways, transportation and transit networks, stadiums, and buildings; now, therefore, be it
 
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor, recognize, and commend the American Society of Civil Engineers Philadelphia Section for its extraordinary service and dedication to the innovation of vital City infrastructure.
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to ASCE Philadelphia Section as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
