Honoring, recognizing and commending the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority on its Fiftieth Anniversary for its extraordinary service and dedication to the City of Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, In February 1964, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) was created by the Pennsylvania State Legislature and is thus celebrating its 50th Anniversary; and
 
WHEREAS, SEPTA is dedicated to delivering safe, courteous, convenient and dependable transit services to the public; and
 
WHEREAS, SEPTA served 337 million citizens in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties in 2013; and
 
WHEAREAS, SEPTA, through the Customized Community Transportation Program, serves approximately 7,300 customized weekday trips for seniors and persons with disabilities; and
 
WHEREAS, SEPTA is a leading innovator in mass-transportation environment sustainability and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions reduction; and
 
WHEREAS, In August 2012, SEPTA hosted the American Public Transportation Association's Annual “Sustainability and Public Transportation Workshop”; and
 
WHEREAS, In 2012, SEPTA achieved the Energy Star Certification for its  accomplishments in sustainability; and
 
WHEREAS, SEPTA has demonstrated fiscal responsibility by maintaining a balanced budget for thirteen years straight; and
 
WHEREAS, In 2013, SEPTA was honored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) with the 2012 “Outstanding Public Transportation System Achievement Award”; now, therefore, be it
 
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor, recognize and commend Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) on its Fiftieth Anniversary for its extraordinary service and dedication to the City of Philadelphia.
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to SEPTA as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
