WHEREAS, German immigrant and sausage maker Gottlieb Dietz purchased Watson Meats in 1939, putting Walter Watson in charge of sales of the newly renamed company, Dietz and Watson; and

WHEREAS, Following the passing of Gottlieb Dietz in 1964 after 25 years of leadership, his daughter Ruth and her husband Louis took over the business and began to implement plans to expand from their small shop at Front & Vine; and

WHEREAS, While the company remained small for the first few decades of its existence, the family business has now expanded across the United States and employees over 1,300 people, with their 320,000 square foot headquarters located right in the Tacony section of Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, Chairperson, Ruth Dietz Eni, takes immense pride in the fact that her company is still family owned and family run; with eight relatives holding positions in the organization, Dietz & Watson plans to continue this family legacy; and

WHEREAS, 2014 marks the 75th Anniversary of one of Philadelphia's most successful businesses and one of the nation's largest premium deli meats producer; and

WHEREAS, After four generations, the family owned Dietz & Watson still practices the original mission of Gottlieb Dietz, "quality above all else"; and

WHEREAS, In honor of the 75th Anniversary, Dietz & Watson lunch truck drivers will be traveling from the Atlantic to the Pacific for a 200-day, 30-city journey delivering their premium meats and recipes across the country. Chairperson Ruth Dietz Eni will accompany the tour to celebrate this milestone; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and congratulate Dietz and Watson on the occasion of their 75th Anniversary.

RESOLVED FURTHER, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Ruth Dietz Eni, members of her family and the employees of Dietz and Watson...
