Honoring and congratulating John McNesby on the occasion of his retirement from the Philadelphia Police Department.
 
Body
The Council of the City of Philadelphia hereby honors, congratulates, commends and thanks John McNesby on the occasion of his retirement after years of dedicated and excellent service to the City of Philadelphia.
 
WHEREAS, The Council of the City of Philadelphia is pleased and proud to join with the Philadelphia Police Department, family and friends in honoring and congratulating John McNesby on the great occasion of his retirement following his years of dedicated service to the Police Department and the citizens of Philadelphia; and
 
WHEREAS, John McNesby joined the police department in 1989 and served as a patrol and tactical officer in the East Division, specializing in narcotics investigation.  John is a 2007 Graduate of the Harvard Trade Union Program. An intense course focusing on labor around the world that includes participants from across the globe; and
 
WHEREAS, John McNesby has received numerous commendations and awards from the Philadelphia Police Department including Officer of the Year in 1995 and 1999. John has also received awards from the Alcohol Tobacco & Firearm's Bureau, The United States Senate and United States Congress, as well as Philadelphia City Council; and
 
WHEREAS, In October of 2007, John was elected President of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5 in Philadelphia which represents over 14,000 active and retired police officers, the largest labor organization in Philadelphia; and
 
WHEREAS, In December of 2008 John was nominated by the Secretary of Labor and appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as a member of the Advisory Committee on Job Corps for a two year term; and  
 
WHEREAS, In fall 2009, John was honored as the “Man of the Year” by the Emerald Society, marking his never ending commitment to the surviving families of our officers killed in the line of duty; and
 
WHEREAS, In January of 2013 John successfully relocated the FOP union headquarters to a new state of the art, 12 million dollar 55,000 square foot facility located in Northeast Philadelphia. The new headquarters generated more local jobs and now employs 75 full-time employees; and
 
WHEREAS, In addition to his executive position at the union, John is also involved in numerous philanthropic efforts including the Coats for Kids program, Adopt a School, care packages for troops, and raising funds for the surviving families of our slain officers of the Philadelphia Police Department; and
 
WHEREAS, John and his wife Patty have been married for 20 years and have two daughters, Meghan and Caitlyn. The McNesby's live in the Greater Northeast section of Philadelphia; now, therefore, be it
 
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor, congratulate, commend and thank John McNesby on the occasion of his retirement after years of dedicated and excellent service to the City of Philadelphia.
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to John McNesby, as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
