WHEREAS, Wilt Chamberlain was born in Philadelphia and attended Overbrook High School where his basketball stardom began while playing for the Overbrook Panthers; and

WHEREAS, The U.S. Postal Service is issuing two Limited Edition Forever stamps honoring Chamberlain that will be available starting this month; and

WHEREAS, Chamberlain led the Overbrook Panthers to two City Championships during his high school career; and

WHEREAS, Chamberlain was coined his three lifelong nicknames "Wilt the Stilt," "Goliath," and "The Big Dipper," while playing at Overbrook High School; and

WHEREAS, Chamberlain dominated the NBA for more than a decade during his professional basketball career from 1959 to 1973; and

WHEREAS, Chamberlain still holds the record for highest score by a player in a single game with 100 points; and

WHEREAS, Chamberlain led his team to two NBA Championships, earned four regular-season Most Valuable Player Awards and was selected to thirteen All-Star Games and ten All-NBA First and Second Teams and set multiple individual records; and

WHEREAS, Chamberlain was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1978, elected into the NBA's 35th Anniversary team of 1980 and chosen as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History of 1996; and

WHEREAS, Chamberlain played professionally for the Philadelphia/San Francisco Warriors, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Los Angeles Lakers.

WHEREAS, Wilt Chamberlain is the first NBA player ever to appear on a U.S. postage stamp; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby honors Overbrook High School and the United States Postal Service for holding a special dedication ceremony commemorating Wilt Chamberlain and his Limited Edition ...
