WHEREAS, Mr. Neubauer is the epitome of the American dream, coming to the United States alone at the age of fourteen with little English knowledge; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Neubauer worked his way through undergraduate studies at Tufts University before earning an M.B.A from the University of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Neubauer announced he will be leaving Aramark on February 3, 2015, after 30 years as Chairman; and

WHEREAS, Aramark is a leading hospitality services company based in Philadelphia, which employs over 270,000 employees worldwide; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Neubauer has been a committed leader in the Philadelphia Community through his involvement as head of the governing board of the Barnes Foundation and roles in creating the National Constitution Center and Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Neubauer is a committed philanthropist, most notably through the Neubauer Family Foundation, which has donated millions of dollars to education, arts and culture programs in Philadelphia and around the country; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Neubauer was an instrumental force in the Pope's decision to visit Philadelphia during the "World Meeting of Families"; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Neubauer is well respected among his peers, having received the Woodrow Wilson Award for Corporate Citizenship, the 2012 Philadelphia Award in recognition of his civic involvement in the region, been inducted into the prestigious Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans in 1994 and elected to the American Philosophical Society in 2007; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That Council does hereby recognize and honor Mr. Joseph Neubauer on the occasion of his retirement as Chairman of Aramark.
