Honoring, recognizing and congratulating Barbara McCabe for being a recipient of the 2015 Fourth Annual Richardson Dilworth Award for distinguished public stewardship in Philadelphia’s Department of Parks and Recreation.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Barbara McCabe became one of three recipients of the 2015 Fourth Annual Richardson Dilworth award for distinguished Public Service in Philadelphia for her outstanding commitment and professionalism as a Philadelphia public employee; and

 

WHEREAS, In 2011, Mayor Michael A. Nutter established the Richardson Dilworth Award for Distinguished Public Service in Philadelphia to recognize the contributions of outstanding public employees whose work performance embodies excellence in public service; and

 

WHEREAS, The winner of the Richardson Dilworth Award for Distinguished Public Service in Philadelphia is selected by a panel composed of representatives of private business, philanthropists, non-profits and religious institutions as well as community members; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. McCabe was selected from 160 nominations of City employees from all across government.  Nominations came from City employees, managers and the general public; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. McCabe first worked for Philadelphia Parks & Recreation when she was 14 doing a summer job as a member of Youth Corps.  She continued to work there during summers while she attended Penn State; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1999, Ms. McCabe was named and currently serves as the Director of Stewardship for Philadelphia Parks & Recreation where she manages roughly 80 friend groups. She also organizes efforts relating to clean ups and permits approvals for all parks across the City. McCabe is an advocate for green space and she appreciates the transformative impact of parks and recreation spaces on the everyday lives of citizens; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. McCabe’s work enables volunteers to donate over 200,000 hours to make Philadelphia better, worth more than $5 million to the City, now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honor, recognize, and congratulate Barbara McCabe for being a recipient of the 2015 Fourth Annual Richardson Dilworth Award for distinguished public stewardship in Philadelphia’s Department of Parks & Recreation.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. McCabe, as evidence of the sincere sentiments and deep appreciationof this legislative body.
