Calling for the School District of Philadelphia to mandate cursive writing in the Philadelphia School District Curriculum.
 
Body
WHEREAS, It is important for students to learn to engage in cursive writing in order to be deemed intelligent and functional individuals in society; and
 
WHEREAS, Cursive writing should be taught at least in the 3rd grade; and
 
WHEREAS, All students should be able to write legibly in cursive writing before the end of the 4th grade; and
 
WHEREAS, Regardless of Common Core State Standards, cursive writing should be required; and
 
WHEREAS, This issue should be resolved by the end of the School District Budget Agenda year 2016; now, therefore, be it
 
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby require that cursive writing be mandated in the Philadelphia School District academic agenda.
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the School District of Philadelphia Superintendent and all members of the School Reform Commission.
