Calling for the City Council Committee on Education hold hearings on the educational and social agenda for public schools, including charter schools starting this September of 2015.

 

Body

WHEREAS, The School District has released Action Plan 3.0 which talks about educational improvement and equity; and

 

WHEREAS, The most recent results of the state test and have shown little improvement or in some cases a decline in test performance; and

 

WHEREAS, Allegedly these outcomes and other administrative procedures are being used to control access into high performance programs; and

 

WHEREAS, Every student deserves a high-quality education in every neighborhood of the City, including challenging schoolwork, arts and extracurricular activities; and

 

WHEREAS, Our accountability to the students should be invested in their outcomes, which includes matriculation into post-graduate education; and

 

WHEREAS, Third-party confirmation of their outcomes should be made available for public review; and

 

WHEREAS, Parents, community members, and taxpayers have a right to educational improvement for increased tax charges yearly; and

 

WHEREAS, Student-centered accountability has been demanded by City Council for dollars requested for this school year; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the City Council Committee on Education hold hearings on the educational and social agenda for public schools, including charter schools starting this September of 2015.
