The Council of the City of Philadelphia is pleased and proud to recognize and honor George Ricchezza on his 42 years of loyal and dedicated service to SEIU Local 32 BJ.
WHEREAS, George was born in Philadelphia on May 20, 1951 to Lucy and Joseph Ricchezza, the youngest of six children, married Maryann Ricchezza in May of 1975 and currently has two daughters Genna and Gian; and
WHEREAS, George became the Journeyman Mechanic in the Ironworker Department and in 1992 became a Leaderman, serving 3 consecutive terms as a Business Agent, before being elected President; and
WHEREAS, George Ricchezza became President of Local 1201 in 2006 when he began working for the Philadelphia School District in 1975 as a general helper in the Maintenance Department; and
WHEREAS, George Ricchezza has been one of the most vocal advocates and protesters not only in meetings, but in the streets, against school closings, layoffs and privatizations and for increased funding for public education; and
WHEREAS, He represented members in three outlying school districts and a transportation company in Schuylkill County and as President of SEIU Local 32 BJ he served on many boards, including Health and Welfare, Scholarship and the legal trust fund, helping many throughout the City; and
WHEREAS, On November 13, 2015 George Ricchezza will be honored for his dedicated service to the Labor Community and the School District of Philadelphia at Penn's Landing Caterers from 7 P.M. -11 P.M.; and
WHEREAS, George Ricchezza has been a permanent and positive influence in the community and is held in high esteem by all. George has made a positive impact on many people through his advocacy and protests; now, therefore, be it
