Recognizing and commemorating the 75th Annual Membership Meeting and Luncheon of the Pan-American Association of Philadelphia.

 

Body

WHEREAS, The history of the Pan-American Association of Philadelphia began in 1940 when a group of leaders saw a need for a greater awareness of the importance of relationships among the nations of the Western Hemisphere; and

 

WHEREAS, Since its founding in 1940, the Association has been dedicated to promoting cultural, educational and economic activities to increase understanding and cooperation among the peoples of the Americas; and

 

WHEREAS, Pan-American is defined as of, relating to, or concerning North, South, and Central America collectively or the advocacy of political or economic unity among American countries, such as, the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Panama, and others; and

 

WHEREAS, This all-volunteer non-profit organization is dedicated to advancing Pan-Americanism in the Greater Philadelphia Region; and

 

WHEREAS, The vision of these founders has flourished over the years into a dynamic organization comprised of local and international political figures, industrialists, professionals, academics, students, all interested in advancing the concept of “Panamericanismo”; and

 

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia region is home to more than 500,000 residents who trace their roots to Latin America; and

 

WHEREAS, Today, notable leaders such as Romulo L. Diaz, Jr., the Hon. Nelson A. Diaz, Ruben Reyes, Kenneth I. Trujillo, and others guide this organization through their years of excellent work and expertise; and

 

WHEREAS, The 75th Anniversary is a testimony to the impactful work this non-profit organization has contributed to this region; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it recognizes and commemorates the 75th Annual Membership Meeting and Luncheon of the Pan-American Association of Philadelphia.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Pan-American Association of Philadelphia as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
