Honoring the Memory and Celebrating the Life of Barbara Daniel-Cox.

WHEREAS, The Council of the City of Philadelphia respectively joins with family and friends to honor the memory and celebrate the life of Barbara Daniel-Cox. On Sunday, April 24, 2016, God, in His infinite wisdom, took her from our midst; and

 

WHEREAS, Barbara Daniel-Cox, accomplished Development Consultant, Communications Professional, Event Planner, Producer, Executive, Manager, World Traveler, Lover of Arts & Culture, Community Activist, Women’s Advocate, Civil Rights Advocate and Trainer, has been professionally employed with Mayor W. Wilson Goode Sr.’s Commission for Women, as Director of Hall-Mercer Mental Health Center’s Consultation & Education Department, as a Human Relations Specialist with the School District of Philadelphia, and as Director of the Philadelphia Urban League and Philadelphia International Records’ Clean Up The Ghetto Program. She also served as the National Director and Philadelphia Director of the National Council of Negro Women’s Black Family Reunion Celebration; and

 

WHEREAS, As an Event Planner, Manager and Producer, Ms. Daniel-Cox has put together countless events for dozens of venerable institutions, including The Philadelphia Clef Club; Freedom Theatre; OIC of Philadelphia, America & International; Georgie Woods; the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission; Teddy Pendergrass; The Philadelphia Tribune; Cheyney University of Pennsylvania; and Beech Companies; and

 

WHEREAS, As a consultant, her clients have included PECO, Philadelphia International Records, the African American Museum in Philadelphia, ODUNDE, Inc., the Philadelphia Anti-Graffiti Network, the Multicultural Affairs Congress, the U.S. Department of Labor, the Philadelphia Housing Authority, Universal Companies, IAAAM, the Mann Center for the Performing Arts, and the School District of Philadelphia; and

 

WHEREAS, From 1976 until 1982, she worked as an Adjunct Professor at Antioch University Graduate School, the Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work & Social Administration, and Temple University’s Center for Social Policy & Community Development. She received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Cheyney University in 1966 and a Master of Education from Antioch University in 1978; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Daniel-Cox was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.’s Board of Directors and the Cheyney University National Alumni Association, where she once served as President and sat on the Past Presidents Council. She created the Legacy Brunch, Life Member Program and the Cheyney University Alumni Scholarship Fund and served as the first chair of the Board of Directors of the Student Government Cooperative Association. Before her passing, she sat as the current President of The Delta Legacy Group, which was established to ascertain a permanent home for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Daniel-Cox has served several organizations as a board member, advisory board member or general member, including Art Sanctuary and the Philadelphia Black Public Relations Society; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That Council of the City of Philadelphia extends heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of Barbara Daniel-Cox. To her loving family, extended relatives, neighbors and friends, may you find comfort in the peace this wonderful soul has surely found, and in the legacy of goodness she left behind.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Barbara Daniel-Cox, as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
