Also naming the 3000 block of N. Ringgold Street as “John Brickhouse Way” memorializing the loyal and dedicated service of John Brickhouse to the 38th Ward.

 

Body

WHEREAS, John Brickhouse, born on May 31, 1940, was an outstanding community leader and beloved member of his neighborhood; and

 

WHEREAS, John Brickhouse attended Benjamin Franklin High School.  He met his wife, Shirley, who attended William Penn High School in 1956 and they married in 1961. They are the proud parents of two children, John Jr. and Terrence; and

 

WHEREAS, John  Brickhouse worked for over 20 years at the United Containers Company and for twelve years at the Tri-State Box Company. Over the years, John, a.k.a. "Brick" and "Brickhouse," was a Cub Scout leader before launching a long community, civic and political career; and

 

WHEREAS, John Brickhouse worked with Max Weiner, C.E.P.A., the Consumer Party, and later with the Resident's Coalition.  Mr. Brickhouse was also the long standing President of the North Penn Civic Association.  Mr. Brickhouse became a Committee Person in the 38th Ward in 1998 and retired after seventeen years of service to the Democratic Party.  He served many years as Block Captain of the 3000 N. Ringgold Street block committee; and

 

WHEREAS, John Brickhouse passed away on April 28, 2016. His wife, Shirley, who is known for her gallant community cleanup efforts, expresses great love for her husband, and appreciation for the recognition of his many achievements over the years and his remembrance as a community leader; now, therefore be it,

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the memory and dedicated service of John Brickhouse is honored and the 3000 block of N. Ringgold street shall henceforth also be known as “John Brickhouse Way.”

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Brickhouse, as evidence of the sincere respect and appreciation of this legislative body.
