Recognizing and acknowledging the victims of the shooting rampage that happened in West Philadelphia at 52nd and Sansom Streets on Friday night, September 17, 2016. We commiserate with them for the horror they experienced this past weekend and for those that sustained physical wounds, we pray for their speedy recovery.

WHEREAS, A gunman, later identified as Nicholas Glenn, opened fire at 52nd and Sansom Streets, killing a young woman, wounding two officers and three other civilians before he was shot to death by the police; and

WHEREAS, Glenn reportedly walked up to a marked police car and spontaneously began shooting; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Sylvia Young, a 19-year veteran of North Philadelphia's 22nd Police District, who happened to be in West Philadelphia working with a task force, was sitting in that car and was hit several times after at least 15 bullets were fired by Glenn. She was later taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, University of Pennsylvania Officer, Eddie Miller was also shot in the ankle and pelvis area and taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, Four civilians in total were shot victims; three of these victims survived. A 36 year old man was shot twice in his left arm and once in his right arm, a 42 year old man was shot twice in his left leg and a 41 year old woman was shot once in her right ankle; and

WHEREAS, Sadly, one civilian lost her life that night. Sarah Salih, a 25 year old woman, was sitting in her car at 49th and Sansom. She sustained several fatal shot wounds to her torso and was pronounced dead at Penn Presbyterian at 1:56 a.m. Saturday morning; and

WHEREAS, Philadelphia Police Officers and University of Pennsylvania Officer Miller demonstrated exceptional service to their community that night. Immediately after the shooting began, officers were quick to pursue Glenn and eventually cornered him in a north-south alley at 48th and Sansom and killed the suspect....
