WHEREAS, ShopRite Partners In Caring is a year-round, community based, hunger-fighting initiative that works with more than 50 food industry manufacturers to provide $3 million annually to qualified charitable agencies in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Delaware; and

WHEREAS, Since its founding in 1999, ShopRite Partners In Caring has donated nearly $40 million to more than 1,700 charities, including emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, child care centers, battered women's shelters, senior citizen programs, drug rehab centers, programs for the mentally and physically disabled, after-school programs and other organizations that aid those in need; and

WHEREAS, September is National Hunger Action Month, a time when organizations and businesses across the country do their part to help fight hunger in their communities; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Brown, President of Brown's Super Stores, contributed to National Hunger Action Month by hosting "Help Bag Hunger" events in several of his stores, where local leaders participated in bagging groceries for customers while raising awareness around the issue of hunger in our communities. During the event, which occurred on September 21, 2016, cashiers collected donations to help fill the shelves of local food banks; and
WHEREAS, Jeff Brown owns and operates several ShopRite stores across the City, including four that are located in the Fourth Council District of Philadelphia. Brown's supermarkets employ more than 2,300 associates who are committed to making an impact on the local communities that they serve; and
