Celebrating the life and honoring the memory of Darrell Zaslow, a zealous advocate for families and rental property owners and an honorable citizen of the City of Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, On March 1, 2017, Darrell M. Zaslow – cherished husband of Sherri Zaslow (nee Rosenthal), loving father of Dorie (Yirmiyahu) Lauer, Janna (Dr. Aryeh) Henesch, Levi (Shoshana) Zaslow, and Joshua (Baatsheva) Zaslow, dear brother of Dr. Michael Zaslow, Lisa Segelman, and the late Jeffrey Zaslow, devoted grandfather of many, beloved son of Naomi and the late Harry Zaslow, adored son-in-law of Jules and the late Dorothy Rosenthal, dear brother-in-law of Amy Zaslow, David Segelman, Sherry Zaslow, and Barbara and Carmen Morano, and endeared to many nieces, nephews, and dear friends – passed away; and

 

WHEREAS, For nearly forty years, most recently as a partner of Walder & Zaslow, he practiced family and real estate law, appearing before the Family Courts of the Philadelphia region, where he earned a reputation for providing vigorous and aggressive representation in every aspect of family law, including divorce, property distribution, child support, alimony, adoption, and complex child custody actions; and

 

WHEREAS, Zaslow is credited with seminal cases in those areas of law in the appellate courts, including a landmark argument before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania that has altered child custody law in Pennsylvania and has affected many thousands of cases heard in the lower courts, in addition to having authored several legal texts on real estate and municipal law; and

 

WHEREAS, A man of deep Jewish faith, reflected in everything from his firm belief in helping his fellow man to his growing of esrogim, Zaslow’s authorship extended to writing on Jewish history, including “A Divine Madness” a commentary on Rabbi Avigdor Miller’s manuscript on the Holocaust and “The Approaching Year 6000: A History of the Jews from Pre-Time to the Sixth Millennium” published in 2016 after decades of research, drafting and editing; and

 

WHEREAS, Most prominent of his various civic boards and commissions is his affiliation with the Homeowners Association of Philadelphia (“HAPCO”), of which his father and two uncles, Phil and Percy Berk, were three founders, and to which he provided indispensible guidance and representation on behalf of rental property owners; and

 

WHEREAS, His surviving family, friends, colleagues in the law, associates on behalf of landlords, the many who have known him, and those who work for the betterment of the City of Philadelphia will miss Darrell Zaslow, Alav Ha-sholom; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That Council does hereby honor the memory and celebrate the life of Darrell Zaslow as a zealous advocate for families and rental property owners and as an honorable citizen of the City of Philadelphia.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Darrell M. Zaslow, evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
