Title

Calling upon the Philadelphia Streets Department to post the fine for violation of the electric vehicle parking space restrictions on-site, and calling upon the Philadelphia Parking Authority to establish a dedicated call-line to report violations of electric vehicle parking space restrictions and to vigorously enforce such electric vehicle parking space restrictions.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Philadelphia City Council has enacted a one-year moratorium on the designation of new electric vehicle parking spaces pending the development of a best practices policy to encourage the use of electric vehicles in Philadelphia; and

 

WHEREAS, Sixty-Eight electric vehicle spaces have already been designated in the City of Philadelphia; and

 

WHEREAS, Electric vehicle parking spaces are exclusively restricted to electric vehicles from 6:00 P.M. to 6:00 A.M., and non-electric vehicles are authorized to park in electric vehicle parking spaces for no more than two hours between 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.; and

 

WHEREAS, Current beneficiaries of such electric vehicle parking spaces complain that non-electric vehicles park in those spaces in violation of those restrictions, and that enforcement is inadequate; and

 

WHEREAS, The fine for violating the “Parking for Electric Vehicles Only” restriction is $300; and

 

WHEREAS, Posting that substantial fine on-site would deter non-electric vehicle parking in violation of electric vehicle parking space restrictions; and

 

WHEREAS, A dedicated call-line would assist in enforcing the prohibition of non-electric vehicle parking in violation of electric vehicle parking space restrictions; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby call upon the Philadelphia Streets Department to post the fine for violating  electric vehicle parking space restrictions on-site and upon the Philadelphia Parking Authority to establish a dedicated call-line to assist in enforcing electric vehicle parking restrictions; and

 

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Philadelphia Parking Authority vigorously enforce such electric vehicle parking space restrictions.
