WHEREAS, On June 30, 2017, Michael Stiles will retire after 17 years as an executive with the Philadelphia Phillies. Michael Stiles began his career with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2001, joining the front office staff as Vice President for Administration and Operations. In February 2015, Mr. Stiles was promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, a position he held until his retirement in June 2017. In this position, Mr. Stiles oversaw all business operations and supervised the general administration of the team; and

WHEREAS, Philadelphia Phillies team President Andy MacPhail has summed up Michael Stiles's career as a Phillies executive by declaring, "Mike has played a vital role in his 17 years at the Phillies, leading a talented management team during some of the most successful years in the club's history", a tenure that included the Phillies' 2008 World Series Championship; and

WHEREAS, Michael Stiles is a homegrown talent, having received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in political science from the University of Pennsylvania and his Juris Doctor with honors from Villanova University School of Law; and

WHEREAS, An attorney by profession, Mr. Stiles has a long track record of public service. Prior to joining the Phillies front office, Mr. Stiles was appointed by President Bill Clinton to serve as the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in 1993, a position he held for eight years. His tenure as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District included an appointment by Attorney General Janet Reno as Chairperson of the Attorney General's Advisory Committee.
