Honoring the life of Shelia J. Taylor Hawkins for her dedication to the School District of Philadelphia, and offering our deepest and sincerest condolences to her family, friends, students, and all those grieving her untimely death. 

 

Body

WHEREAS, Shelia J. Taylor Hawkins has been a teacher of the School District of Philadelphia since 1992; and

 

WHEREAS, Hawkins was a devoted resident of the Roxborough Neighborhood of Philadelphia. For the past ten years, Hawkins taught at Roxborough’s Shawmont Elementary School as a third grade teacher and was successful in providing her students with a competent early education that allowed them to grow and flourish; and

 

WHEREAS, Sheila Hawkins is described by her family and friends as mentor and mother figure to all those around her. As an educator, Sheila Hawkins was well respected and described as a nurturing person that truly cared for her students; and

 

WHEREAS, On November 19, 2017, Shelia J. Taylor Hawkins died at the age of 62 in a tragic house fire in Roxborough, leaving behind a daughter, son-in-law, and grandson; and

 

WHEREAS, The loss of Sheila Hawkins has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, students and neighbors of the Roxborough Community. She will be forever missed, but will remain a pleasant reminder of the quest to do more for our communities and for the next generation to come; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby honors the life of Shelia J. Taylor Hawkins for her lifelong dedication to the School District of Philadelphia, and offering our deepest and sincerest condolences to her family, friends, students, and all those grieving her untimely death. 

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Shelia J. Taylor Hawkins as evidence of the sincere appreciation of her dedicated service to the children of our City.
