Renaming the 4700 Block of Ella Street "Mike McCrea Way" to recognize, honor, and celebrate the life and legacy of Mike McCrea for his dedication to Philadelphia Parks and Recreation.

WHEREAS, Through the last four mayoral administrations, Mike McCrea has held leadership positions on the Philadelphia Recreation Advisory Council ("PRAC"), including recent service as president; and
WHEREAS, Beyond his roles with PRAC, Mike served as president of the Feltonville Recreation Center Advisory Council, was a judge at the Annual Mummer's Day Parade, a pig farmer at Manatawna Farm, and a doting grandfather - all in addition to his day job with the Philadelphia Water Department; and
WHEREAS, From working one-on-one with local advisory councils to leading citywide rallies for the Rebuild Initiative, Mike's life's work was to ensure that everyone knew the value of Philadelphia's Parks and Recreation System and its importance to the individuals and neighborhoods it serves; and
WHEREAS, Clad in his trademark suspenders, Mike was well-known for his willingness to grab the ears of City leaders - any time, day or night - to fight for resources for Philadelphia's underserved communities; and
WHEREAS, Mike McCrea will be remembered for his tremendous impact on our City and its Parks and Recreation System, and by continuing to work together every day to make our recreation facilities and communities thrive, we will illuminate the light of his legacy; now, therefore, be it
WHEREAS, We in this Council, join in recognizing and honoring the life and legacy of Mike McCrea and hope that the renaming of the 4700 block of Ella Street between East Loudon and East Wyoming Avenue as "Mike McCrea Way", will keep his memory alive, as a reminder of his service and dedication to the community; now, therefore, be it
