Honoring and recognizing the Girl Scouts of America’s 106th Birthday, and their dedication to improving the lives of the children of Philadelphia through character development, gaining leadership experience, and unleashing their inner G.I.R.L.

 

Body

WHEREAS, The Girl Scouts of America were originally formed 106 years ago, in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low, affectionally known as “Daisy”. Daisy managed to assemble 18 young girls in Savannah, Georgia and share with them her knowledge of outdoor and educational activities; and

 

WHEREAS, As the Girl Scouts grew from 18 girls to over 2.7 million Girl Scouts across the world, they continued to do what they thought was most important; offering a helping hand to those in need and working to improve their own corner of the world; and

 

WHEREAS, The Girl Scouts mission is to build “girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. And unleash their inner G.I.R.L (Go-getting, Innovator, Risk-taker, and Leader)”.;  and

 

WHEREAS, Through their leadership development of the Girl Scouts, they are building the next generation of woman who will be leaders in our communities, and will continue to build our nation in the future; and

 

WHEREAS, The Girl Scouts offer numerous scholarships through their organization, offering hundreds of thousands of dollars for college scholarships, and money to help young girls travel across the world for a once-in-a-lifetime experience via GSEP; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor, recognize, and celebrate the 106th Birthday of the Girl Scouts of America, along with their dedication to the youth to developing the young woman of Philadelphia.
