Title

Calling for the City Council Committee on Public Health and Human Services to hold public hearings on the Administration’s plan to expand the use of the Girard Medical Center Drug Treatment Facility.

Body

WHEREAS, A significant number of patients are currently being treated for drug and alcohol addiction at the Girard Medical Center in central North Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, The facility places a significant burden on the residents and businesses located in the neighborhood near the facility; and

WHEREAS, The Administration plans to significantly increase the number of patients served at the facility; and

WHEREAS, The planned increase could bring many more patients to the neighborhood from other parts of the City; and

WHEREAS, There already exists in North Philadelphia, a disproportionate concentration of drug and alcohol treatment facilities; and

WHEREAS, The Administration has not consulted with residents or businesses located near the facility or held public meetings with any neighborhood RCOs regarding its plan; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the City Council of Philadelphia, Calls on the Council Committee on Public Health and Human Services to Hold Public Hearings on the Administration’s plan to Expand the Use of the Girard Medical Center Drug Treatment Facility.
