Honoring  and recognizing the Math, Civics & Sciences Charter School Basketball Team, the “Mighty Elephants” for Winning the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class A State Championship.

Body

WHEREAS, On March 22, 2019, The Math, Civics & Sciences Charter School (MCSCS) Basketball Team, the “Mighty Elephants” won the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class A State Championship (PIAA); and

 

WHEREAS, Veronica Joyner is the Founder and Chief Administrative Officer of MCSCS. Founded in 1999, MCSCS is one of the largest charter schools in the State of Pennsylvania with a population of nearly one thousand students in grades first through twelfth; and

 

WHEREAS, MCSCS was recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Education as one of the City’s top-ten schools out of more than three hundred public and charter schools in Philadelphia; and

 

WHEREAS, The Mathematics, Civics and Sciences Charter School “Mighty Elephants” basketball team was founded in 2000; and

 

WHEREAS, Philadelphia Charter Schools entered the Philadelphia public league and the PIAA in 2006; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, THAT THE PHILADELPHIA CITY COUNCIL HEREBY, Honors and recognizes the Math, Civics & Sciences Charter School Basketball Team, the “Mighty Elephants” for winning the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class A State Championship.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented as a sincere expression of City Council’s appreciation and recognition.
