Also naming the 200 block of West Coulter Street as “Reverend Dr. Alyn E. Waller Way,” in honor of Reverend Dr. Alyn E. Waller, and in commemoration of his life-long and dedicated service to the citizens of Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Alyn E. Waller is the Senior Pastor of Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A highly sought-after revivalist, vocalist, and lecturer, Dr. Waller is a true visionary of church and community who serves humanity far beyond the restraints of traditionalism. Dr. Waller’s partner in ministry and marriage is Dr. Ellyn Jo Waller, the leader of Enon’s Women’s Ministry. They are devoted parents to two adult daughters, Elynn Morgan and Eryka Lynn; and

 

WHEREAS, A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Waller was born on April 8, 1964 to the late Reverend Dr. Alfred M. Waller, Sr. and Mrs. Belva J. Waller, his earliest spiritual influences.

 

WHEREAS, After graduating from Shaker Heights High School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, Dr. Waller continued on to the Ohio University in Athens where, in 1987, he was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Business. Dr. Waller has earned a Master of Divinity Degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky (1990) and a Doctor of Ministry Degree in Ministry to Marriage and Family from Palmer Theological Seminary in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania (1998). In 2014, Dr. Waller received an honorary doctorate from Lincoln University; and

 

WHEREAS, In July 1994, the Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church called Dr. Waller to lead them as their Senior Pastor. God’s anointing on Dr. Waller’s pastorate has been evidenced with unprecedented spiritual and numerical growth. Because of this growth, in July 2006, Enon became “one church in two locations”; and

 

WHEREAS, Today, Enon holds three weekend worship services, including live-streaming one service on the internet, to serve a congregation that has grown from under 300 to 15,000 members; and

 

WHEREAS, In addition to worship, the Word of God and prayer are central to Enon’s ministry. Dr. Waller teaches two weekly Bible studies at Enon and the “Hour of Power” lunch hour Bible study in Center City Philadelphia. Prayer opportunities include two prayer meetings each day at the church locations and a daily, early morning prayer-line led by Dr. Waller and the Prayer Ministry team; and

 

WHEREAS, Also, in August 2016, Dr. Waller hosted the Lott Carey Convention in Philadelphia. This week-long event hosted thousands of missionaries throughout the world to learn about missionary efforts and to conduct numerous acts of service in the Philadelphia area; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Waller further carries the Gospel message through regular appearances on Philadelphia radio stations 105.3 FM-WDAS and 900 AM-WURD and offers commentary on social media platforms Facebook and Twitter; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Waller has also authored two books, Enjoy Your Journey: Our Quest for a Deeper Relationship with Christ, and its sequel, Hope for the Journey: Believing God is Enough When the Road Gets Rough; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Waller’s community outreach extends far beyond the walls of Enon. As a community activist and a voice for the underserved, his signature service work is a men’s initiative to serve Philadelphia. Dr. Waller has gathered hundreds of men of various religious backgrounds and community affiliations to offer a visible presence, continued participation, and positive influence in the Philadelphia neighborhoods; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the dedicated service of Reverend Dr. Alyn E. Waller to The City of Philadelphia is honored and the 200 block of West Coulter Street shall henceforth also be known as “Reverend Dr. Alyn E. Waller Way.”
