Recognizing the Launch of the Inaugural Philadelphia Public School Homecoming Weekend Celebrating Alumni of the School District of Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, On Thursday, November 7, 2019, Philadelphia will launch a citywide series of events celebrating Philadelphia public schools and their alumni. Alumni, families, and friends are encouraged to attend events to commemorate their experience within the Philadelphia public school system and to support the School District’s ongoing commitment to educational excellence; and

 

WHEREAS, The festivities will commence on Thursday November 7, 2019 at 6 PM with the Inaugural Alumni Awards at the Fillmore Philadelphia. The ceremony will honor one of the most prolific supporters of Philadelphia public schools, Janet Hass, MD, and some of our most distinguished public school alumni, including Joseph Field of Entercom Communications Corp, Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and actress Jill Scott, Temple University Men’s Basketball Coach Aaron McKie, and Ellen Lissy Rosenberg of the Goldenberg Group; and

 

WHEREAS, The Award Ceremony will be followed by a Homecoming Dance featuring the music of the Urban Guerilla Orchestra and a special musical guest. Attendees are encouraged to dress fashionably for the red carpet and an exciting evening of dinner, drinks and dancing; and

 

WHEREAS, On Friday, November 8, 2019 at 9:30 AM, Philadelphia alumni are invited to visit open public elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the City.  Alumni will have the opportunity to visit with school leaders, learn about current student accomplishments, and discuss resources to enhance the learning experience; and

 

WHEREAS, On Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 12 Noon, Philadelphia public school alumni, families and friends are invited to attend a Battle of the Bands exhibition as a close to the 2019 Homecoming Weekend.  The exhibition will feature talented student musicians from area public schools, including drum lines and rock bands; and

 

WHEREAS, The Battle of the Bands event will be hosted at the family-friendly Craft Hall space.  Designed as an “Ode to Philly”, Craft Hall offers food, beverages, an indoor playground, and games.  It is located at 901 North Delaware Avenue in Northern Liberties. Admission is $5 for students and $10 for adults; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, All alumni, family, and friends are warmly welcomed to Philadelphia’s 2019 Homecoming Weekend to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments by student and graduates, and support the ongoing efforts of the School District of Philadelphia to provide an excellent learning experience for its students.
