WHEREAS, Interact was founded in 1969 as a private, nonprofit, community-based organization working to meet the human services needs of the residents of Andorra, Roxborough, Manayunk, Wissahickon, East Falls, Nicetown and other communities within Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, The mission of Interact is to help people live fulfilling lives by providing resources for aging, behavioral health, and intellectual and developmental disabilities; and

WHEREAS, Interact employs more than 400 people across two dozen projects with the hopes of fulfilling this mission; and

WHEREAS, Interact is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors whose members serve four-year terms. Much of the work of the Board is accomplished through its committees: Aging Services, Behavioral Health Services, Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities Services, Executive Board, Resource Development, and Finance. The current Board of Directors includes John E. McGovern (Chair), Polly Schaller (First Vice Chair), Nancy Guarino (Second Vice Chair), Scott Peters (Treasurer), Constance Gillespie (Secretary), Devon Allen, James Calami, Chelsea Cephas, Bernard Guet, Barbara G. Lamb, Kathy Miller, John O'Neill and Fred Slifer; and

WHEREAS, On November 9, 2019, Interact will celebrate 50 years of serving Philadelphia communities; and

WHEREAS, Success stories over the years have included helping children with severe emotional and behavioral issues complete schooling and helping individuals with disabilities successfully access jobs in their communities; and

WHEREAS, The work of Interact has left an important mark on the City for decades and should be honored; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby recognizes and honors Interact on the occasion of the Organization's 50th Anniversary.
