WHEREAS, Anna DeFusco was a lifelong resident of South Philadelphia and mother of two daughters and mom-mom to two grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Anna graduated from John W. Hallahan High School and the Temple Real Estate School; and
WHEREAS, Anna, never one to rest on her laurels, worked for both the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority for over 25 years, where she was employed as an Administrative Secretary, she also worked part-time for local physician Dr. Guy Carnabuci, MD, for 38 years; and
WHEREAS, Anna was a very active member of the Philadelphia Federal Credit Union (PFCU) and eventually joined the Board of Directors where she became the Chairperson of the Delinquent Loan Committee; and
WHEREAS, Anna was an avid volunteer in her community as the former Vice President of the South Philadelphia Communities Civic Association, a participant in the annual Columbus Day Parade, American Cancer Society Walks and numerous other charity functions. She was also politically active and served as the local Judge of Elections in the 1st Ward, 21st Division; and
WHEREAS, Anna, a true product of South Philadelphia, loved to cook and would have open house on any given day, especially on New Year's Day to support the Mummers and on Columbus Day sporting her green, white and red; and
WHEREAS, The City wishes to commemorate and honor the legacy of Anna DeFusco through the renaming of the 1400 block of South Clarion Street in her honor; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the 1400 block of South Clarion Street, between Reed Street and Dickinson Street in the City of Philadelphia, shall henceforth also be known as “Anna DeFusco Way”.
