Recognizing and honoring the Share Food Program, for providing emergency food relief to the vulnerable populations of Philadelphia over the past 34 years, and for further increasing their efforts to bring nutritious food to our communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Body
WHEREAS, The Share Food Program was founded in the Allegheny West neighborhood of Philadelphia in 1986 by Steveanna Wynn; and

WHEREAS, The Share Food Program is the largest charitable food agency in the region, supplying over 2.9 million pounds of emergency food to 500 organizations in order to serve over 700,000 individuals; and

WHEREAS, The Share Food Program is the hub of volunteerism in the area by bringing together over 100,000 volunteers each year to sort, pack, and distribute emergency food for those in need; and

WHEREAS, The Share Food Program's Commodity Supplemental Food Program provides shelf-stable foods to over 6,500 seniors each month; and

andschools and nursing homes to help deliver healthy, fresh produce to the youth and elderly of Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, The Share Food Program supports the School District of Philadelphia to supply approximately one third of the City's school lunch program; and

WHEREAS, The Share Food Program provides special food options during the holidays, filling thousands of meal orders over a short time-frame and working to ensure that no family should have to worry about food insecurity; and

WHEREAS, The Share Food Program has stepped up to provide emergency food to respond to unexpected hardships time and time again; and

WHEREAS, The Share Food Program led a relief effort during the COVID-19 pandemic, distributing over four million pounds of food to those in need in the first 30 days alone; and

WHEREAS, The Share Food Program, with the City of Philadelphia, led a relief effort to establish and stock 40 emergency food pantries for Philadelphians who had become financially distressed due to the economic slowdown; and
