Recognizing the 12th Annual Block Captain Boot Camp, which will be held virtually for the first time ever on Saturday, October 24, 2020.

 

Body

WHEREAS, The Block Captain Boot Camp, created by Councilmember Curtis Jones, Jr., seeks to provide block captains with the necessary resources to help and empower our neighborhoods, because block captains play a vital role in securing the safety and well-being of our residents; and

 

WHEREAS, The inaugural Block Captain Boot Camp was held in 2008 at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Over the past 13 years, it has also been held at Philadelphia University, St. Joseph’s University, Beeber Middle School, High School of the Future, Overbrook School of the Blind, The Kroc Center and in Fairmount Park; and

                     

WHEREAS, Due to these unprecedented times created by the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Block Captain Boot Camp will be held virtually, following CDC guidelines. The event will stream live on Saturday, October 24, 2020 from 11 AM to 1 PM on Channel 64; and

 

WHEREAS, Block Captain Boot Camp 2020 will feature four workshops: “Pandemic Health,” “Home Schooling 101,” “Community Policing,” and “Gardening.” Each workshop is designed to share prominent knowledge with hundreds of active and influential residents of the 4th Council District; and

 

WHEREAS, Councilmember Jones has confirmed the virtual attendance of several community leaders, including Senator Vincent Hughes and State Representative Morgan Cephas; and

 

WHEREAS, The first ever virtual Block Captain Boot Camp will represent our “new normal,” while still providing much needed resources and information to our community; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby recognizes the 12th Annual Block Captain Boot Camp, which will be held virtually for the first time ever on Saturday, October 24, 2020.
