WHEREAS, Dan Hilferty was born in Delaware County, PA, and raised in Ocean City, New Jersey before moving to Philadelphia to attend St. Joseph's University. He went on to earn his Masters of Public Administration from American University; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hilferty began his career as a Jesuit Volunteer Corps member in Portland, Oregon, before returning to Philadelphia and working for St. Joseph's University. He then served as executive director of PennPorts under Pennsylvania Gov. Robert P. Casey; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hilferty has held numerous leadership positions with Independence Health Group over his nearly twenty-five year career with the organization. Prior to becoming CEO, Mr. Hilferty spent thirteen years as head of Independence Health Group's Medicaid managed care subsidiary, AmeriHealth Caritas; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hilferty became CEO of Independence in 2010. During his time leading the company, Independence has increased health care revenue under management and nearly tripled in size, operating in twenty-seven states, employing over 11,000 employees, and serving eight million members across the country. During his tenure, Mr. Hilferty collaborated with numerous Philadelphia health care institutions to help them expand and streamline care for patients. He also vastly expanded the impact of Independence's innovation and philanthropy activities; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hilferty rose to the challenge of addressing the opioid epidemic head-on as Pennsylvania and the country reached a point of crisis, by expanding access to treatment coverage and funding community organizations aimed at preventing substance use disorder and mitigating the effects of opioid use; and
