Authorizing the Philadelphia City Council Committee on Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs to hold public hearings examining the feasibility of establishing a new Boys and Girls Club at Rose Playground.

 

Body

WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia is among the oldest standing Club organizations in the nation, serving Philadelphia youth since 1887. The mission of the organization is to enable all young people, especially those who are most of need, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens; and

 

WHEREAS, Today, the Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia serves over 9,600 youth annually in 22 Clubs throughout the City; and

 

WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia is seeking to expand their services to the City’s youth, by opening a new Club at Rose Playground, located at 1300 N. 75th Street. The proposal includes a 30,000 sq. ft. club that would have the capacity to serve upwards of 500 children; and

 

WHEREAS, Based on demographic studies commissioned by the Boys and Girls Club of America, the neighborhood where Rose Playground is located is well situated to serve a significant number of children and families that are not currently being serviced by the organization; and

 

WHEREAS, The programs and services offered by the Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia have been proven to achieve incredible outcomes by providing a safe and supportive environment for our city’s youth. As such, Philadelphia City Council should examine the organization’s potential for expansion; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby authorizes the Philadelphia City Council Committee on Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs to hold public hearings examining the feasibility of establishing a new Boys and Girls Club at Rose Playground.
