Title

Recognizing the work of William R. Sasso upon his transition from his role as Chairman of Stradley Ronon Stevens and Young to Chairman Emeritus.

 

Body

WHEREAS, After twenty-seven years as Chairman, Mr. Sasso has stepped into the role as Chairman Emeritus of Stradley Ronon Stevens and Young, a Philadelphia law firm; and

 

WHEREAS, During his time as Chairman, Mr. Sasso managed more than 200 attorneys in the firm’s eight offices in Philadelphia, Malvern and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Wilmington, Delaware; Cherry Hill, New Jersey; Washington, D.C.; Chicago; and New York; and

 

WHEREAS, In his over four decades of experience, Mr. Sasso has become known as a lawyer with unparalleled skills and a deep commitment to his clients. He represented a wide range of industries and entities including religious organizations, nonprofits and private clients with a focus on corporate law; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Sasso has been honored many times for his legal work and business acumen. He is the recipient of the Learned Hand Award for excellence in law from the American Jewish Committee, the Americanism Award from the Anti-Defamation League, and the William Penn Award which is the highest award given for business excellence in the Philadelphia region; and

 

WHEREAS, In addition to those recognitions, Mr. Sasso was also awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Legal Intelligencer. This award honors legal practice excellence and those who stand for the best virtues of Pennsylvania’s attorneys and whose work has elevated and moved forward the profession; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Sasso is a champion of Philadelphia’s nonprofit community. He has served on numerous boards and has played a leading role in various educational initiatives, health law programs, and organizations focused on bettering government and improving the cultural landscape of our City; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Sasso has also been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for his commitment to this organization, and was the recipient of the Chairman’s Award from the USO of Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey in honor of his service to the country and his sustained and significant support of the USO mission; and

 

WHEREAS, Recently, Mr. Sasso has turned his attention to politics and improving the lives of Pennsylvanians using his years of legal expertise. In 2016, he served on now Attorney General Shapiro’s transition team. In the past, he has honored the requests of governors to serve as transition counsel and as a board member at Independence Blue Cross; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Sasso, as Stradley Ronon Chairman Emeritus, intends to spend the remainder of his career working more closely with his clients and continuing to work on several legal projects which are transformational for the Greater Philadelphia Region. In addition, he will continue serving as Chair of Select Greater Philadelphia to secure jobs in the Greater Philadelphia Region. He will also continue his work with several members of this council in the area of diversity and inclusion. The City of Philadelphia thanks him for his continued efforts to better our City in all his endeavors; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the City Council of Philadelphia, Hereby recognizes the tremendous dedication of William R. Sasso over the past three decades to the City of Philadelphia and its numerous institutions and communities.
