Title

Honoring and congratulating the Academy at Palumbo’s robotics team, the RoboGriffins, on their success at the 2021 CoderZ League Pro competition, where the robotics team was declared the world champions.

 

Body

WHEREAS, The robotics team is led by physics teacher, robotics coach, and alumni of the School District of the Philadelphia, Lee Burwasser with Sean Martin; and

 

WHEREAS, Team Members Mingjin Lu, Mike Vargas, Danny Zheng, Zhijun Tian, Jeffrey Cheung, Yucong Li, Emanuel Villegas, Lauren Huynh, Calvin Wong, Aaron Wu, Devin Liu, David Yang, Sharif Salim, Jiahao Wang, showed skill, perseverance, and adversity to become the 2021 CoderZ League Pro World Champions; and

 

WHEREAS, The RoboGriffins were challenged to program a fully automatic virtual robot. The robot was required keep its balance on a wobbling platform, detect colors in its environment, and fire a cannon at virtual targets, all with no user input whatsoever; and

 

WHEREAS, The RoboGriffins have qualified for States three years in a row but were ultimately successful this year, competing against teams from around the United States and eventually, the world, emerging victorious winning each match in the competition; and

 

WHEREAS, The team advanced to the finals match where they competed against students from Moscow, Russia. At the end of the match the Academy at Palumbo robotics team was declared the world champions; and

 

WHEREAS, The team overcame adversity due to COVID-19 and technical glitches to secure the championship. The Academy at Palumbo robotics team showed leadership in STEM education in Philadelphia; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby congratulate and honor the Academy at Palumbo Robotics Team, the 2021 CoderZ League Pro World Champions.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy be presented to the Academy at Palumbo Robotics Team, further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
