Commending and recognizing Michael Hand on the occasion of his retirement from his outstanding career with the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters and his service to the Philadelphia community.

WHEREAS, Michael Hand retired at the end of February from Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters (EASRCC) as the Assistant Executive Secretary-Treasurer; and
WHEREAS, The EASRCC represents more than 40,000 members in Delaware, the District of Columbia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and 10 North Carolina counties. Their members come from many different trade groups including: commercial/residential carpenters, heavy highway, piledrivers, floor-layers, mill cabinet, and tradeshow; and
WHEREAS, Before Hand’s appointment to Assistant Executive Secretary-Treasurer, he served as a Senior Area Manager for the Keystone + Mountain + Lakes Regional Council of Carpenters, which was renamed the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters in December of 2019. His duties involved managing and organizing team rooms overseeing Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Delaware; and
WHEREAS, Hand is a 35-year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He grew in his career as a member of Local Union 1050 out of Philadelphia and served on the Local’s Executive Board in numerous positions for almost 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his career as a skilled carpenter, Hand was involved in construction projects at some of Philadelphia’s most well-known institutions including the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia International Airport, Luken Steel, the Philadelphia Convention Center, Liberty II, and many more; and
WHEREAS, Although Hand no longer resides in Philadelphia, he remains true to his roots and remains highly active in the community through community organizations and his church; and
WHEREAS, Hand gives back through his work as a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus and as a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians; and
WHEREAS, Hand volunteers through his Philadelphia church, The Shrine of St. John Neumann. He also takes time to assist “Carpenters Who Care,” which helps carpenters struggling with addiction, volunteers for the Center of Support for Children’s Advocates, and constructs dog houses for families in need through the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA); now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby commends and recognizes Michael Hand on the occasion of his retirement from his outstanding career with the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters and his service to the Philadelphia community.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Michael Hand as evidence of the sincere admiration of this legislative body.
