Honoring and congratulating the West Catholic Preparatory High School Girls Basketball Team, the Lady Burrs, on winning the school's first ever PIAA state title against Mohawk with a 67-56 victory.

WHEREAS, The Lady Burrs are coached by Beulah Osueke who became the first ever Black female coach to capture a PIAA state basketball championship; and
WHEREAS, The Lady Burrs had also captured the Catholic League championship in 2020 and two games in the state playoffs; and
WHEREAS, West Catholic Senior Ciani Montgomery scored a game high 34 points, five rebounds, three steals, and a block, and single handedly outscored Mohawk 7-5; and
WHEREAS, Virginia Tech signee Senior Destiney McPhaul made a basket to increase West’s lead and is this year’s Catholic League Most Valuable Player; and
WHEREAS, Senior Patience Sanders made a free throw and Senior Daziy Wilson made a three pointer with nine points and three assists to give West Catholic a comfortable lead; and
WHEREAS, West Catholic’s mission statement exemplifies their commitment to athletic and extracurricular excellence in the following: “West Catholic Preparatory High School Catholic community of academic excellence in an urban environment that is open to an interdenominational population. The school’s rigorous spiritual, academic, technological, and extra-curricular programs develop our ethnically diverse student body into young men and women of strong moral and ethical character”; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby congratulate and honor the Lady Burrs West Catholic Preparatory High School on their PIAA State title.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy be presented to the West Catholic Preparatory High School Girls Basketball team, further evidencing the admiration and respect of this legislative body.
