Title

Honoring the non-profit organization, The Block Gives Back, for their successful Youth Internship Program for 12-18 year old’s aimed at growing nonprofit operation skills and providing support for community events.

 

Body

WHEREAS, The Block Gives Back (TBGB) is a non-profit organization with the mission to “promote community involvement and engagement throughout Philadelphia by targeting issues within the community and devising a plan to recruit local volunteers, businesses, organizations, and community leaders to help us in working toward a solution”; and

 

WHEREAS, The non-profit has worked for years to develop quality grassroots community work even through the Pandemic, such as distributing hundreds of free meals, school backpack giveaways, and planned several street cleanups; and

 

WHEREAS, The organization has held several “Feed the Block” events, including most recently May 1st, preparing fresh grab ‘n go meals for those in need, focusing on informing volunteering about the seriousness of homelessness and the small gestures they can take to help with the issue; and

 

WHEREAS, The Block Gives Back has touched several neighborhoods since beginning their organization, and has highlighted several neighborhoods in various campaigns such as the #4blocksin4weeks spring cleaning campaign focusing on back to back block cleanups; and

 

WHEREAS, The Youth Internship Program works to inspire youth to be the change they wish to see by providing them with the resources and tools to be successful in the future; and

 

WHEREAS, The focus of the program curriculum combines education, creativity, responsibility, and experience to empower youth; and

 

WHEREAS, The participants of the Youth Internship Program, allows for nonprofit operation training and skills to implement their own facet of a TBGB event; and

 

WHEREAS, Since beginning the program, the participant’s Kyle Clayborn, Kasheon Clayborn, Yashir Satterfield, and Ziome Melendez have developed critical skills and have grown in personality and understanding; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor non-profit organization, The Block Gives Back, for their successful and developmental Youth Internship Program for 12-18 year old’s aimed at nonprofit operation skills and implementation of community events.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to The Block Gives Back as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
