WHEREAS, On July 1, 2021, West Chester native Dr. Jason Wingard will become Temple University's first Black president in the school's 137-year history; and

WHEREAS, As of 2016, a mere 8% of college presidents in the United States are Black. For decades, Black scholars have been denied a voice in higher education, and it is refreshing to see Temple take a historic step to challenge this pattern. With many lively Black neighborhoods surrounding Temple's campus, it is exciting to see how Dr. Wingard's representation in leadership may impact the nearby communities; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Wingard has dedicated his career to increasing equity in education and fostering spaces for scholars to develop and thrive in their careers. In Philadelphia, he founded the Education Board, Inc., a consulting firm that offers executive coaching and corporate advising to a range of clients, including non-profit organizations, K-12 institutions, colleges, universities, and corporations; and

WHEREAS, He has served as Managing Director and Chief Learning Officer of Goldman Sachs, where he managed employee education & development programs. He speaks often about his educational and business experiences intertwine to provide him with innovative ideas and perspectives; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Wingard's accomplishments in both academia and business are nothing short of remarkable. He has earned degrees from Stanford University, Emory University, Harvard University, and the University of Pennsylvania. Furthermore, he has served in leadership positions at Columbia University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Stanford University. Dr. Wingard is a fantastic pick to serve as the next president of Temple University, and we congratulate him on his accomplishments; and
