Honoring and congratulating Champion of the Week, Central High School Baseball and Softball teams, for their successful 2020-2021 season and winning their respective Public League Championship games.

Body
WHEREAS, The Central High School Baseball team is lead by head coach Micah Winterstein and the Central High School Softball team is lead by head coach Christine Soda; and

WHEREAS, Girls softball players Ava Holtzman, Raquel "Rocky" Baret, Kirsten Barth, Courtney McKenna, Abby Poper, Olivia Dolan, Abby Gross, Cierra Lyles, Sara Hogan, Gabrielle Effendian, Lily Sklaver, Bella Pommells, were led by Captains Lucia Layden and Kerry Bitto and showed skill, strength, and perseverance to defeat opponents to become the Public League champions; and

WHEREAS, The Central Lancers Softball team secured a back-to-back championship, winning the 2019/2020 Public League Championship in addition to their 2020/2021 overall 7-3 record to claim this year's Public League Championship against Franklin Towne Charter on June 16th; and,

WHEREAS, Boys baseball players Richard Beggy, Luke Meer, Owen Woodward, Zachary Flaxman, Milton James, Jude Rowland, Roger Liddle, Evan Holahan, Edan Crosby, Peter Heim, Henry Cress, Mason Seigel, Daniel Koppish, Ethan Tom, and Spencer Rosman showed determination, strength, and expertise to defeat opponents to become the 2021 Baseball Public League Champions; and

WHEREAS, Central Lancers' baseball team, which has won the Philadelphia City Championship 20 times, finished the season with an overall record 13-3, winning their championship game against Science Leadership Academy on June 15; and

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby congratulate and honor Champion of the Week, Central High School Baseball and Softball teams, for their successful 2020-2021 season and winning their respective Public League Championship games.
