Recognizing the week of November 8, 2021 as Global Entrepreneurship Week (“GEW”) and celebrating the small business community and the impact of the entrepreneurial spirit on Philadelphia’s economy.

 

Body

WHEREAS, The week of November 8, 2021 is recognized as Global Entrepreneurship Week; and

 

WHEREAS, Global Entrepreneurship Week is the world's largest celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups, bringing ideas to life, driving economic growth and expanding human welfare; and

 

WHEREAS, Entrepreneurs lead Philadelphia’s job growth efforts. As our small businesses expand, they employ Philadelphians in the neighborhoods they live in and improve the quality of life of individuals and communities across the City; and


WHEREAS, Global Entrepreneurship Week is a celebration of collaboration. In 2021, GEW aims to bring business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs together to, “seize the opportunity to: reboot and help those most severely impacted by the economic downturn, rethink together as one global ecosystem and to regenerate lost jobs while helping all economies to rise on an incoming tide of entrepreneurial potential”; and

 

WHEREAS, GEW is celebrated across one-hundred-eighty countries and host over forty thousand events across the world. Key themes in 2021 include education, ecosystems, inclusion and policy; and

 

WHEREAS, GEW Education shines a spotlight on partners, activities and thought leaders in the field who are shaping the way we educate and train nascent entrepreneurs around the world; and

 

WHEREAS, GEW Ecosystems aims to inspire communities to collaborate, and share their networks and markets to help their rising startups thrive. This theme celebrates the shared challenges and triumphs of entrepreneurship communities and hubs around the world; and

 

WHEREAS, GEW Inclusion highlights the work startup champions are doing around the world to minimize barriers and obstacles for entrepreneurs by maximizing inclusion. This theme celebrates diversity in all forms, including women and youth in entrepreneurship; and

 

WHEREAS, GEW Policy highlights the work of governments and policymakers to help entrepreneurs everywhere start and scale. This theme celebrates the crucial role played by policy makers in supporting entrepreneurship; and

 

WHEREAS, Philadelphia’s small businesses, run by entrepreneurs of many different backgrounds, are the lifeblood of our economy. Encouraging others to follow in their footsteps through collaborative events like GEW is essential in sustaining and growing our local economy; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the City Council of Philadelphia, Does hereby recognize the week of November 8, 2021 as Global Entrepreneurship Week (“GEW”) and celebrate the small business community and the impact of the entrepreneurial spirit on Philadelphia’s economy.
