WHEREAS, Jazmine Sullivan, a North Philadelphia native, hailing from the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood, began singing contralto in her church's children's choir; and
WHEREAS, Jazmine graduated from Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts with a major in vocal music in 2005; and
WHEREAS, Jasmine's first album, Fearless, released in 2008 and co-executive produced by hitmaker Missy Elliot, reached gold certification with four hit singles including "Need U Bad" and "Bust Your Windows", both of which registered on the Billboard Top 100 Chart; and
WHEREAS, After a nearly six-year hiatus, Jasmine released Heaux Tales on January 8, 2021, with first-week sales of 42,000 copies, debuting at number four on the US Billboard 200 chart, becoming her highest-peaking album; and
WHEREAS, Heaux Tales, an innovative storytelling work with songs punctuated with true life vignettes recorded by family and friends and includes high-profile collaborations with performers H.E.R. and Ari Lennox; and
WHEREAS, The album also includes the smash hit and Jazmine's first ever Gold Single, "Pick up Your Feelings", which was featured on former President Barack Obama's much-discussed Summer 2021 playlist; and
WHEREAS, Jazmine gained even more exposure after singing the National Anthem at this year's Super Bowl LV with country singer Eric Church; and
WHEREAS, Entering the 2022 award season, Jazmine has earned a total of six Soul Train Award nominations, also taking home the award for Best Female R&B/Soul performer, and three Grammy nominations; and
WHEREAS, Jazmine continues to inspire a new generation of young women with raw talent that highlights vulnerability, self-love, and the strength of Black women; now, therefore, be it
