WHEREAS, Phillies’ Bryce Harper finished the season with 35 home runs and 84 runs batted in (RBIs) all while leading the majors in slugging percentage; and
WHEREAS, Harper faced difficulty this season overcoming multiple injuries, during the first half of the season while still keeping Phillies playoff hopes up until the final week of the season; and
WHEREAS, Harper 179 OPS+ is the third-best by a Phillies player since 1900 and joins Babe Ruth, Barry Bonds, and Stan Musial as the only outfielders in baseball history to have 100 runs, 100 walks, 40 doubles, and 35 homers in a season; and
WHEREAS, Harper has been known as a “five-tool player”. overall he’s had 4,557 at bats, 850 runs, 1,273 hits, 752 runs batted in (RBIs), 833 base on balls (walks), and .279 batting average; and
WHEREAS, Harper has also been named LBPA NL Outstanding Player Award, Hank Aaron Award, St. Louis Sports Commission’s Musical Award, and a Silver Slugger Award; and
WHEREAS, Harper will continue his career in Philadelphia while completing his 13-year contract with the Phillies and carrying the team to greater success and hopefully another World Series run; therefore, be it
